VETERINARY USE
Cefaxim 500 mg and 1000 mg Broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Composition
Cefaxim 500 mg
Each tablet contains: Cephalexin (as cephalexin monohydrate) 500 mg; Excipients q.s. 1000 mg
Cefaxim 1000 mg
Each tablet contains: Cephalexin (as cephalexin monohydrate) 1000 mg; Excipients q.s. 2000 mg
Indications of Use
Cephalexin is a systemic bactericidal antibiotic with a broad spectrum and low toxicity. It is used for the treatment of infections of the skin, respiratory system, urogenital tract, and soft tissues, juvenile cellulitis, as well as for bone and joint diseases. It acts on Gram + and Gram – sensitive cephalexin bacteria, including Penicillin Resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus.
DOSAGE AND ROUTES OF ADMINISTRATION:
Administer orally.
Dogs and Cats: 20 or 30 mg per kg of weight every 8 or 12 hours according to the criterion of the professional acting: Cefaxim 500 mg: 1 tablet every 20 kg of weight; Cefaxim 1000 mg: 1 tablet every 40 kg of weight).
The treatment should be administered up to 5 days after the disappearance of clinical signs, according to the evolution of the patient, preferably until a negative culture, according to professional criteria.
In case of superficial pyodermias, the product should be continued for 7 to 10 days after the disappearance of the dermatitis.
In case of deep pyodermias, the product should be continued for 14 to 21 days after the dermatitis has disappeared.
Administer together with food.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Animals with renal or hepatic insufficiency or with sensitivity to antibiotics or other beta-lactams.
Since vomiting may occur, administer the product together with food.
Do not administer in patients with septicemia, shock or serious diseases that may affect absorption from the gastrointestinal system.
Precautions and Warnings
Verify that the product’s inviolability system and its storage conditions prior to use are adequate, and that it has not expired with reference to the expiration date expressed on the label.
Do not exceed the doses proposed on the label.
Safety in pregnant females has not been demonstrated but neither have teratogenic effects been documented, therefore, use only if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Store between 15 and 30 °C, away from direct sunlight, in a dry and hygienic place, keeping it in its original packaging.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
